x-ray technology

The versatile Elekta Xoft® Axxent® Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx®) System® utilizes state-of-the-art 50kV x-ray technology to provide expanded treatment options for a range of cancers.

Elekta Xoft provides isotope-free HDR therapeutic radiation of the disease target while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.

Elekta Xoft utilizes a proprietary, miniaturized x-ray tube with state-of-the-art extended source life cooling to apply radiation directly to the tumor site. The clear circulating cooling fluid is non-toxic, and effectively maintains proper tube temperature. The use of a high-performance, nonaqueous coolant extends source life dramatically.

The steep dose gradient of the 50kV source minimizes exposure to adjacent healthy tissues and organs and allows medical personnel to remain in the room with the patient in virtually any clinical setting with minimal shielding.

Combined with the comprehensive capabilities of Elekta Xoft, the x-ray source offers an attractive option to physicians and patients for improved flexibility, precision and personalization in the targeted treatment of cancer.

Indications currently under investigation include prostate, colorectal and brain cancers.
