Elekta receives orders valued at SEK 120 M for radiotherapy equipment for treatment of cancer in North America
Elekta has signed agreements to deliver radiotherapy equipment for treatment of cancer to a number of leading cancer clinics in North America. The deliveries are planned for this and the next fiscal year and the accumulated order value is approximately SEK 120 M.
The systems are IMRT compatible. IMRT stands for intensity modulated radiotherapy. The development of treatment methods for cancer is focusing on high-precision radiation. IMRT enables the radiation dose to be adapted to the tumor's shape and specific radiation sensitivity with high precision. With IMRT the risk for healthy tissue being damaged is also reduced. The patient's treatment result and quality of life is thereby enhanced.
"The U.S. authorities support the development of more effective methods for treatment of cancer. As part of this ambition a decision has been taken to increase the reimbursement levels for this improved treatment method, which is very positive", says Tomas Puusepp, responsible for Elekta's North-American operations.
"This is to the advantage for the healthcare providers and the patients and it opens up new business opportunities for Elekta, a world-leading supplier of radiotherapy equipment with IMRT", ends Tomas Puusepp.
Elekta is a world-leading supplier of advanced and innovative radiation oncology and neurosurgery solutions and services for precise treatment of cancer and brain disorders. Elekta's solutions are clinically effective and cost efficient and gentle to the patient.
