Elekta raises more than $50,000 to support women with cancer

San Francisco-based Women’s Cancer Resource Center received funds, which will help women with any cancer, from all backgrounds, economic abilities and ethnicities

San Francisco United States — Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Elekta activities at the 56th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) raised more than $50,000 for the Women’s Cancer Resource Center (WCRC), an organization that provides services that help clients cope with the physical and emotional changes caused by treatment, the disease, and the challenges of caring for someone with cancer. The WCRC provides information on prevention and early detection and outreach to communities throughout the San Francisco East Bay area.

“WCRC serves as the ‘safety net’ to the ‘safety net,’” says Peggy McGuire, Executive Director, WCRC. “Our staff and volunteers are committed to assuring that all women facing cancer receive emotional and practical support and access to life-saving screening, diagnostic, treatment and survivorship resources. We are deeply grateful to the people of Elekta for supporting our work.”
The donation came from proceeds from event and raffle ticket sales for Elekta’s Charity Bash, held Saturday, September 13 at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria, where more than 1,000 attendees enjoyed live music and dancing.

“The Women’s Cancer Resource Center is part of a critical support network for families that are impacted by cancer,” adds Jay Hoey, Executive Vice President, Elekta North America. “We take great pride in annually hosting this charitable event to ensure WCRC and similar charitable organizations can maintain their vital work.”
