Elekta Demonstrates Cancer Management Solutions for Radiation Therapy at ChinaMed Exhibition in Asia

At the 23rd International Medical Instruments & Equipment (ChinaMed) Exhibition, March 25-27 in Beijing, Elekta (booth # 3A001) will showcase its comprehensive oncology solutions for managing cancer safely and effectively.

Beijing China — Tuesday, March 22, 2011

“To serve its large population, China is making unprecedented healthcare investments, increasing the demand for new care capacity, particularly for patients with cancer,” says Ian Alexander, Executive Vice President of Elekta’s Asia Pacific Region. “Through acquisition and innovation, Elekta has a strong portfolio of solutions that supports the management of a patient's cancer care and we’re proud to participate in the effort to deliver advanced technology to more people in the region.”

During the exhibition, Elekta will introduce its 3D ultrasound technology, Clarity™, to the Chinese market. Prioritizing patient comfort and safety by exploiting a non-invasive, non-ionizing imaging modality, Clarity system solutions are available to provide image guidance for patients with cancer of the breast, prostate, gynecological, liver, bladder or head and neck cancer.

In addition, Elekta also will demonstrate:

  • Symmetry™ , a feature set of Elekta’s X-ray Volume Imaging package of software for IGRT. The software enables clinicians to add the fourth dimension (i.e. 4D) of motion to enhance image guidance with the patient in the treatment position just before therapy. Lung SBRT offers a more gentle treatment option for patients who may not be ideal candidates for surgery, and Symmetry provides the imaging workflow to ensure confident visualization of lung tumors.
  • Elekta Compact™ , a cost-effective, versatile linear accelerator that provides a range of treatment techniques. With its modular design, Compact is designed to accept new features and functions as department needs grow. For example, Elekta’s MLCi2 is now available for seamless integration with Compact. With MLCi2, the radiation beam can be shaped to the target volume quickly and accurately, enhancing patient care. Compact now can be optionally equipped with iViewC™, a digital imaging system designed to optimize treatment accuracy. Utilizing CCD (charge-coupled device) technology, iViewC affords quality, real-time images that verify that the patient is in the correct position at the time of treatment. This helps ensure safety and reduces margins.
  • MOSAIQ® , Elekta’s dedicated electronic OIS in the Chinese language. MOSAIQ streamlines the entire therapy workflow – from initial diagnosis and staging, through planning, treatment and subsequent follow-up – to maximize efficiency and minimize patient queues.
  • Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ , the intracranial gold standard for brain tumors, Perfexion affords the ability to treat multiple targets in a single session and is designed to treat the most complex cases in the head and neck. During the new technology seminar at ChinaMed, Professor Christer Lindquist, neurosurgeon and medical director of the Gamma Knife Centre at Cromwell Hospital, will discuss the management of brain mets Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion.
  • Flexible radiation treatment planning tools, including Monaco®, XiO® and Atlas-based Autosegmentation, which enhance workflow and help make the planning process easier, more straightforward and clinically reliable.
