ELEKTA HELPS BUILD ADVANCEDHEALTHCARE IN IRAQ
Through United Nations oil-for-foodprogram, which also has been part of the reconstruction of Iraq,Elekta has been chosen to deliver complete systems for minimal-invasivestereotactic and functional neurosurgery to be installed athospitals in various parts of Iraq. The delivery, carried out inOctober and with a value of approx. EUR 4.3 M, also includestraining outside Iraq of both neurosurgeons and service engineers.
The systems supplied by Elektawill be used for routine as well as advanced, minimal-invasivebrain surgery. Each system includes the Leksell StereotacticSystem�, a three-dimensional localizing and referencesystem that provides extremely high precision in the diagnosingand treatment of such ailments as deep seated brain tumors andfunctional disorders. Also included in the system is LeksellSurgiPlan�, an advanced computer-based planningsoftware which makes it possible for surgeons to plan andsimulate treatment in advance. Instruments for biopsies andhaematoma evacuation are included as well as generators forstimulation and lesioning in the brain for the treatment offunctional and other disorders in the brain.
