ARDEN CANCER CENTER TO BENEFIT FROM CLINICAL DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS FROM IMPAC MEDICAL SYSTEMS AND FIRST DATABANK EUROPE

PRESS RELEASE
Stockholm, Sweden, December 15, 2006

The Arden Cancer Centre, part of the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, is set to benefit from clinical decision support following the successful implementation of software from IMPAC Medical Systems, an Elekta Company, supported by First DataBank Europe’s (FDBE) drug knowledge base.

The Trust has selected IMPAC to implement their oncology specific image-enabled electronic medical record system to improve overall workflow and practice management and to enhance care for cancer patients. The system includes FDBE’s comprehensive decision support, which is designed to improve patient safety by helping clinicians reduce medication errors at the point of prescribing. The system also has the ability to audit clinicians’ responses to warnings.

Dr Clive Irwin, Clinical Oncologist, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, comments: “Patients at the Arden Centre rely on clinicians for the best possible care. We have selected this system, designed specifically for the context we work in, to provide vital patient and drug data and clinical decision support necessary for us to select the best medicines and treatments for each individual to ensure patient safety.”

Menna Kime, Product Marketing Specialist at IMPAC, adds: “As a specialist developer of oncology data management systems across the spectrum of cancer care, we are proud to have been selected to provide a solution for the new Oncology Unit at the Arden Cancer Centre. We have partnered with FDBE as it has unrivalled expertise and knowledge in clinical decision support. This system has been devised with cancer patients in mind to support prescribing and dispensing for oncology clinicians.”

Keith Kirtland, Sales and Marketing Director at FDBE says “We are thrilled to be part of this successful implementation that will see our products providing real value to clinicians and helping to improve care in this vital field.”
