To achieve the highest level of reliability and efficacy Cobalt 60 is used as the source of radiation in Leksell Gamma Knife®. The half-life of Cobalt 60 is 5.26 years and a Leksell Gamma Knife® is normally reloaded with new Cobalt 60 sources 6-8 years after installation. To facilitate reloading as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, Elekta has designed a complete reloading package. This package consists of reloading, removal and long-term storage of used Cobalt.
With the reloading package, Elekta supports the continued success of Leksell Gamma Knife®, long after the initial investment. Cobalt 60 is a widely used and readily available isotope. In addition to a long history of use in the medical field, it is also used in large quantities for sterilization of food, cosmetics and other products requiring sanitary preparation.
Software Services
Our software development team is continuously upgrading the software with new functionalities. The development guarantees that Leksell Gamma Knife® user's Leksell GammaPlan® will remain the most sophisticated treatment planning system for radiosurgery.
