You don't have to be a brain surgeon to help a child with a brain tumor

You Don't Have to be a surgeon to help a child with a brain tumor

Are you up for a challenge?

Join Elekta and the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children Saturday, November 1 at the 10th Annual William's Walk & Run as we support research efforts to find a cure for pediatric brain tumors! This year's event will take place at the Mansell Crossing Shopping Center in Alpharetta, and the first 15 people to register for the 1 mile walk (7:45 a.m.) or 5K or 10K runs (8:15 a.m.) will receive a complimentary registration. To register, stop by my desk and I will provide you with a form. Complete, return to me and I'll send to the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children each Friday.

This is a great event for Elekta presence in Atlanta, and we hope everyone will be up to the challenge! For those of you who do not wish to walk or run, but would like to attend, please let me know if you would like to volunteer for any of the below opportunities.

Race-day registration -These volunteers take the registration for runners onsite. They will take the completed and signed registration form, entry fee and issue a race number.

Pre-registration - These volunteers will issue a race packet to the participants who have pre-registered.

Mile-split announcers -These volunteers will assemble at the starting line in one vehicle.  With the starting gun, they will start watches and will be taken to the 1 and 2 mile marks to call out times as the runners pass by.  These people will be standing for about thirty minutes and need a voice that projects well.

Water-stop volunteers - These people will fill enough cups of water to cover the tables prior to the runners' arrival, hand out the water as the runners pass by and clean up the cups from the ground.  They will be positioned at the start/finish and at the 1½  mile mark on the course.  These volunteers may get a little wet and may need to do some heavy lifting.

Refreshments - These volunteers will organize the refreshment tables available to the participants after the race.

Brain Tumor Foundation for Children to Celebrate Tenth Year of Annual 5K and 10K Run Presented By Elekta

All proceeds from this year’s event to benefit pediatric brain tumor research

Atlanta-based Brain Tumor Foundation for Children, Inc., will hold its annual William’s Walk & Run, presented by Elekta, Saturday, November 1 at the Mansell Crossing Shopping Center in Alpharetta, Georgia. Established in memory of William Nichols, a child who lost his battle with a brain tumor at the age of one, this annual event celebrates the lives of those affected by pediatric brain tumors.

“It is my pleasure to announce that all proceeds from this year’s race will go to support pediatric brain tumor research,” says Mary Campbell, Executive Director of the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children. “Increased funding is imperative in the battle to save young lives and for the tenth anniversary of this event; we hope to surpass last year’s record of more than $90,000.”

Race-day registration for the walk, 5K run and 10K Peachtree Road Race qualifier will be held from 6:30–8 a.m., in the Mansell Crossing Shopping Center on North Point Parkway in Alpharetta. The one-mile walk will begin at 7:45 and the 5K and 10K runs will take place at 8:15 a.m. Pre-registration is available online, at www.firstgiving.com/btfc or www.active.com. Register before October 25 for $20 and $25 thereafter. All registered participants will receive a long-sleeved moisture-wicking T-shirt. The Williams Walk & Run also is animal friendly, so feel free to bring pets.

“At Elekta, everything that we do, everything we represent is all about improving, prolonging and saving lives,” says Joe Jachinowski, President and CEO of Elekta North America. “It is an honor to sponsor an event that works to eradicate brain tumor disease in children.”

About the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children

Now in its 25th year, the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children (BTFC) holds fast to one school of thought: You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to help a child with a brain tumor. Through its social, emotional, informational and financial support, we are committed to caring for the needs of our families.

On a broader scale, the Foundation supports technological advances and research to ensure that this disease does not continue to take children as casualties.
