Goal:
The 2 day Standard Desktop Course (travel time inclusive) provides training for Radiation Therapists in the clinical use of Desktop and Digital Accelerator. Successful participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to operate the system effectively. The course does not provide training in the principles or techniques used in Radiation Therapy.
Objectives:
- Provide a basic understanding of the hardware and software comprising the Desktop and Digital Accelerator and Standard software
- Facilitate competent use of Desktop and Digital Accelerator for clinical purposes
- Understand the relevant safety issues and system administration procedures with regard to the daily use of the machine
Prior to Training:
All inspections, including Federal, State and Hospital requirements such as Certificates of Occupancy and Fire Marshall Inspections must be completed and approved. All room construction must be completely finished.
Requirements for Training:
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide the following:
- Provide a maximum of four Radiation Therapists
- Schedule the same Therapists throughout training
- Adhere to the published course schedule
- The linear accelerator must be available for training purposes for duration of the course
- Experience of a computers windows environment would be an advantage
Note: Elekta personnel are not responsible for patient contact or operation of equipment during training sessions except to demonstrate correct use of the equipment.
Accreditation – ASRT category A
This training is accredited through ASRT for category A. Therapists receive credits if, they attend all elements of the training program as documented in the equipment Training Checklist. |

Following equipment handover an Elekta support representative can be contacted at 1 888 242 7171. A 2 day follow-up visit may be scheduled within 12 months after the initial training course. This provides an opportunity to answer questions and queries from the Therapists, and the Applications Specialist receives valuable feedback from the users.
Further training may be purchased from Elekta if your staff changes training requirements differ from the course detailed above.
