CMS, Inc., an Elekta Company and worldwide leader in radiation treatment planning and workflow management solutions, today announced the commercial launch of its new 4D treatment planning solution, Focal4D™.

Presbyterian Cancer Center – Dallas, a joint venture between Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and Texas Oncology, PA, recently installed an Elekta Infinity system, enabling the facility to begin treating patients with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). Elekta Infinity is the facility’s first image guided linear accelerator, and will allow the Center to offer patients shortened treatment times with the highest degree of precision.

The Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology and Elekta Award Research Fellowship

Radiation oncology and medical technology groups award the second annual CARO-Elekta Research Fellowship to Dr. Scott Carlyle Morgan Vancouver, BC – The Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO), along with international medical-technology group Elekta, are pleased to award the 2008 CARO-Elekta Research Fellowship to Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Scott Carlyle Morgan. The ,000 fellowship, provided by Elekta, will enable Dr. Morgan to conduct research with the Uro-Oncology Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, England with Professor David Dearnaley. NIH-funded study harnesses Elekta technologies to offer hope for lung tumor patients

Lung tumors have been difficult to treat with radiation therapy because patient breathing causes tumors to move around. This uncertainty about the tumor’s exact position has made it challenging to target the tumor with radiation beams while simultaneously avoiding normal tissues with these same treatment beams.

Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre (TSRCC), the Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, is purchasing innovative Elekta cancer treatment systems that will offer significantly greater treatment accuracy for radiotherapy.
