LEADING THE WAY FOR OVER 50 YEARS

Stereotactic Neurosurgery offers minimally invasive neurosurgery for localization and treatment of targets within the brain

Stereotactic Neurosurgery is an integrated solution for minimally invasive neurosurgery for localization and treatment of targets within the brain.

Elekta has been leading the way for over 50 years by continuously setting new standards and today occupies a frontline position in stereotactic surgery. The Elekta solution has the largest stereotaxy user group in the world. Today it is being used by over 1,100 clinical centers and academic institutions worldwide for both treatment and training.

Elekta’s system within stereotactic neurosurgery is characterized by simplicity, versatility and accuracy.

The products are easy to use, easy to learn and have an optimized design in a sophisticated, yet simple way. The versatility is demonstrated both by the wide range of supported applications and the freedom of choice that it offers the neurosurgeon.

The unsurpassed accuracy is obtained through the solid fixation to the skull, the positioning of the instrument with the arc and dedicated instruments for a wide range of applications.

In contrast to conventional cranial surgery, minimally invasive surgery only requires a small burrhole, making the procedure less traumatic as well as increasing the speed of patient recovery.

The core system within Stereotactic Neurosurgery is Leksell Stereotactic System®, a three-dimensional reference system which allows the surgeon to very accurately localize and treat the pathological area with highest accuracy. The system is used for diagnostic as well as therapeutic procedures, such as biopsies of deep-seated targets and treatment of functional disorders.

Leksell Stereotactic System® constitutes together with two other major components, Leksell SurgiPlan® for pre-operative planning and Leksell® Neuro Generator for lesioning and stimulation, one integrated system. It also provides the foundation for late professor Lars Leksell’s development of Leksell Gamma Knife® and radiosurgery as an effective treatment option.
