Juntendo University begins VMAT treatments for Prostate Cancer

On April 13, Juntendo University (Tokyo, Japan) became the third facility in Japan to begin using Elekta Synergy® to treat prostate patients with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). Using VMAT, treatment times can be dramatically shorter and treatment margins are much more conformal than with conventional IMRT. And VMAT requires significantly fewer MUs than conventional IMRT, reducing total MU delivery by up to 50 percent.

Australian Safety Agency orders Elekta Synergy® as gold standard for Calibration and Dosimetry

Elekta Acquires 3D Line Medical Systems

Elekta, world leader in advanced radiation therapy, comprehensive cancer management and non-invasive treatment of brain disorders, today announced the acquisition of 3D Line Medical Systems S.r.l. Through this acquisition, Elekta adds a highly qualified R&D group specialized in stereotactic radiosurgery and dynamic IMRT treatments as well as a product portfolio of advanced equipment and treatment planning software systems for performing radiation therapy with extreme precision and optimized dose distribution.

After becoming Japan’s first medical center to acquire Elekta Synergy®, an advanced treatment system for intensity modulated and image guided radiation therapy (IMRT and IGRT), University of Tokyo Hospital recently treated its first patients, becoming the first hospital in Japan to clinically use advanced, 3D X-ray volume image guided radiation therapy to irradiate cancer tumors with higher precision and accuracy.

One of the U.S. premier providers of Gamma Knife® surgery, The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Presbyterian (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, has agreed to purchase the new Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ , the most advanced system ever for non-invasive radiosurgery of brain disorders. UPMC will be one of the first medical centers in the country to install this new system in the early spring of 2007.

The Arden Cancer Center, part of the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust , is set to benefit from clinical decision support following the successful implementation of software from IMPAC Medical Systems, an Elekta Company, supported by First DataBank Europe’s (FDBE) drug knowledge base.

Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre (TSRCC), the Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, is purchasing innovative Elekta cancer treatment systems that will offer significantly greater treatment accuracy for radiotherapy. TSRCC, one of North America’s largest cancer care centers, has purchased two Elekta Synergy® systems and will be one of the first centers in North America to install MOSAIQ™ Oncology PACS from IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc., an Elekta company.
