Juntendo University begins VMAT treatments for Prostate Cancer

On April 13, Juntendo University (Tokyo, Japan) became the third facility in Japan to begin using Elekta Synergy® to treat prostate patients with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). Using VMAT, treatment times can be dramatically shorter and treatment margins are much more conformal than with conventional IMRT. And VMAT requires significantly fewer MUs than conventional IMRT, reducing total MU delivery by up to 50 percent. |

CARO-Elekta Research Fellowship to Dr. Scott Carlyle Morgan
Vancouver, BC – The Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO), along with international medical-technology group Elekta, are pleased to award the 2008 CARO-Elekta Research Fellowship to Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Scott Carlyle Morgan. The $75,000 fellowship, provided by Elekta, will enable Dr. Morgan to conduct research with the Uro-Oncology Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, England with Professor David Dearnaley. His research will revolve around a newly emerging approach to treating prostate cancer that involves the delivery of very precise radiation treatment only to regions of the prostate gland that harbour cancer. He is scheduled to begin his research in November 2008.
