Hitachi selects software solutions from Elekta for Proton Therapy Center in Japan

Nagoya, Japan, September 09, 2009

Hitachi has selected Elekta to provide workflow enhancing software for its PROBEAT® proton therapy facility at West Medical Center in Nagoya, Japan. Enabling the facility to manage patient data in a chartless, paperless environment, the facility is the second Hitachi-equipped center to implement MOSAIQ®, Elekta’s oncology information system (OIS) for cancer care.

A sophisticated treatment management solution, MOSAIQ manages planning, setup, verification, delivery review and analysis.* Integrated with MOSAIQ is the MOSAIQ electronic medical record (EMR), which supports the cancer care team by uniting diverse systems and devices.

“With MOSAIQ, Elekta offers significant proton therapy and radiation oncology expertise,” says Koji Tanaka, Vice President and Executive Officer, President & Chief Executive of Power Systems Group, Hitachi, Ltd. “We’ve been very pleased with the integration of MOSAIQ with our PROBEAT system at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and look forward to collaborating with Elekta at our Nagoya facility.”

MOSAIQ is designed to support different types of radiation systems and modalities, including Proton Therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) all in alignment with Elekta’s long-standing history of supporting multiple vendors and open systems to support new technologies.
