inspiring CLINICAL CONFIDENCE The Introduction of Elekta Synergy®, the first advanced multi-functional linear accelerator with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT ) and image guided radiation therapy (IGRT ), enables clinicians to both image and treat patients in the same frame of reference, at the time of treatment. The result is unmatched clinical confidence, enabling more aggressive treatment of tumors while minimiz-ing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Elekta Synergy directly addresses the two most persistent and significant issues in modern radiation therapy: internal organ motion and errors in patient set-up. The development of Elekta Synergy and its suite of imaging tools was driven by the need to visualize internal structures at the time of the treatment in order to reduce geometric uncertainties. The ability to image at the point of treatment and in the treatment position reduces issues relating to organ movement and inspires the clinical confidence to pursue IMRT delivery. This will bring 4D Adpative IGRT into routine clinical use. Using Elekta Synergy VolumeView™ , clinicians can visualize soft tissue detail in any area of the body. This unique functionality offers two potential benefits: - the ability to minimize side effects of radiation therapy by reducing the margins previously set to account for uncertainties of target dimensions, location and movement
- the potential to adopt dose escalation and hypofractionation regimes with the confidence that a 3D plan will be delivered as an accurately targeted 3D treatment

Sophisticated yet simple IGRT tools The 3D imaging capability of Elekta Synergy enables the clinician to take full advantage of IMRT dose delivery without the need for implanted target surrogate markers, due to the high visualization capability of all soft tissue structures, target volume and critical structure position. A suite of advanced automated workflow oriented tools enable precise and rapid registration of the reconstructed image data with the historical CT planning data. Following image registration, remote automatic table movement ensures Elekta Synergy workflow is optimized. Fast, low dose imaging Elekta Synergy VolumeView™ provides low dose volumetric 3D data sets with sub-millimeter isotropic resolution. This integrated system can acquire a complete 3D volume in a partial or complete gantry revolution, with in-line reconstruction taking place simultaneously. The dosage necessary to obtain a VolumeView image can be varied depending on the level of contrast required. For prostate imaging, a larger degree of contrast is required to differentiate similar soft tissues in addition to complications caused by low transmission and high scatter, while a VolumeView image in the head-and-neck region would require a lower dose, in the region of 0.9mGy CTDIw. Rectal imaging doses have been measured invivo at 17.23 ±2.76mGy in 15 patients receiving treatment to the prostate at the University Hospital Mannheim. |
SYNERGISTIQ™SYNERGISTIQ integrates MOSAIQ and Elekta Synergy with a consolidated and synchronized user interface that brings together, in a coordinated manner, the various systems that are required for IGRT. SYNERGISTIQ enhances the clinical workflow through the use of the sophisticated clinical workflow engine (CWE). The CWE automates patient selection by sending reference data and pre-sets to Elekta Synergy. Couch corrections and VolumeView images generated during the image acquisition process plus reference CT data are automatically stored with MOSAIQ. Elekta Synergy – inspiring clinical confidence
