The standard range of Elekta electron applicators have a 5cm gap between the end frame and the isocenter, useful for patient positioning and viewing the light beam. Four electron applicators are supplied as standard with each Elekta linear accelerator, and these range from 6 x 6cm to 20 x 20cm square.

A range of other applicator sizes are available as optional extras. These are:

• a rectangular applicator
• a 25 x 25cm square applicator
• a short applicator which enables treatment using an electron arc
• a series of tubular applicators from 2cm to 5cm diameter –  particularly suitable for treating small tumors.
  

All Elekta electron applicators have removable end frames which are coded and interlocked for enhanced patient safety. These end frames can be replaced by bespoke end frames, custom-made to match the shape of the treatment area.

Saving time and space

The electron beam shaping mold produces customizable electron beam shaping end frames without the need for a dedicated mold room. The resultant frames can be coded and interlocked to the Elekta electron applicators allowing verification of the treatment prescription.
