Desktop Pro™ R7.01 introduces the fifth generation integrated digital control system, designed for the Elekta range of treatment systems.

The new Desktop Pro control system ensures a smoother patient flow and improved patient throughput, thus improving the financial performance of the clinic. This is achieved through the provision of greater processing power and improved service tools and diagnostics, with a range of new dynamic treatment delivery options.

In combination with software solutions from MOSAIQ flexible networking capability enables all Elekta digital linear accelerators to be easily integrated into a multi-facility clinic and to function as part of a seamless radiation therapy process.

Compatibility

Desktop Pro R7.01 is compatible with Precise Treatment System, Elekta Synergy Platform, Elekta Synergy, Elekta Synergy S, Elekta Infinity and Elekta Axesse.

Elekta VMAT

Desktop Pro™ combines the flexibility of these previous approaches into a single integrated system, Elekta VMAT . This integration provides enhanced efficiency and flexibility as well as avoidance of the safety concerns associated with the use of multiple independent control systems. This flexibility can be used to improve the quality of the dose distribution, increasing dose to the target and reducing integral dose, including OAR.

Elekta VMAT offers the ability to continuously irradiate the target while rotating the gantry around the patient in single or multiple arcs. These arcs can be super-imposed or non-coplanar arcs. VMAT delivery simultaneously controls:

• gantry position and speed
• MLC and back-up jaw position
• collimator head rotation
• dose rate

A highly conformal dose distribution is delivered in significantly less time than with other comparable complex techniques. VMAT has the capability of reducing treatment times which can minimize the amount of time the patient spends on the treatment couch, enabling improved patient throughput but also reducing the risk of intra-fraction motion and consequently improving accuracy of treatment delivery.

Desktop Pro™ R7.01 also includes a secondary checking system known as Delivery Warden. This verifies that the field currently being delivered by the digital accelerator matches the prescribed treatment parameters to within a set of permissible variances.

Intelligent beam timer

This has been introduced to merge the dynamic variable dose rate and replaces the segment timer.
