The Next Generation Brain Atlas AtlasSpace® is a new option for Leksell SurgiPlan®. It is a powerful tool for functional neurosurgery, further facilitating evaluation of patient images and identifying correct targets. AtlasSpace® is the next generation computerized stereotactic brain atlas based on the Schaltenbrand & Wahren** atlas, featuring a combination of: - Sophisticated 3-D matching

AtlasSpace® overlays the atlas contours from the Schaltenbrand & Wahren atlas directly on the patient's anatomical images matching the data in three dimensions by using the 3-D Talairach proportional grid, defined by eight anatomical landmarks.
The atlas contours can also be matched in all dimensions to non-symmetrical brains. Once a target area is selected, the matching can be further refined using local anatomical landmarks. Interactive Atlas Contours Visualization of structures can be turned on or off individually. Groups of user selected structures can be defined so that only the relevant contours for different procedures are displayed, according to the individual surgeon's preferences.
The atlas contours are interactively labeled. Just placing the cursor on a displayed contour gives the name of the structure.  Advanced Target Verification When a target is placed in an image, the distances in millimeters to the AC-PC line are automatically calculated, to verify the position. Generic targets can be defined relative to the atlas contours, and once selected for a particular patient the corresponding stereotactic coordinates are calculated.
AtlasSpace® integrates seamlessly with Leksell SurgiPlan®, and once the target position has been determined, a path to the target can be directly defined in Leksell SurgiPlan® to evaluate the optimal approach.
